Salmon Ramen at Wagamama
17/11/2008Been busy working on the computer since this morning, still didn’t find the time to buy any food for this week yet, oh’boy - first thing tomorrow morning I need to run to Shaws, otherwise there won’t even be any eggs for breakfast.
Later tonight, met with a friend for some warm soupy noodles in Wagamama. A funny thing happened earlier, while I was meeting with a client, I was asked my school email for some demo signup, which the first thing that popped up was F.I.T - that - was like seven years ago, however, I couldn’t think of a school email for it, let’s see, seven years ago, I don’t think I was even on the computer, I went to a school for fashion and design, when we started psychology class half of the girls in the class complains that the CD on the back of their psychology books doesn’t work in their CD player. I had a good chuckle with my dinner friend, about my good old times and adventures in what used to be the number one fashion school in NYC. Oh that poor psychology professor, there are alot of funny stories coming out of that class, I remember that before the midterm, he give out all of the pages and questions will be tested on, and yet half of the class failed okay more like only me and two other person passed, he was so pissed that he stormed out of the class room, just like that …
Unlike any other colleges, people often think oh design school is easy, not really, I often say that I didn’t have a normal college life because all three of the schools I went to during my early 20s are art and design schools. Which was more time demanding, sleep and food depriving than anything else. However during these times I did learn a hard work ethic, an keen eye on detail and the best visual memory. When I was learning textiles, we had to see, touch and learn every kind of fabric in a book that’s thicker than the phone book, so later, we are able to touch a fabric then tell what kind, the name, what it can be used for and that if it’s good quality. Tho, I don’t do much fabric buying now, this skill becomes more useful when ever i’m talking with my clients, unlike these people that have to write everything down at meetings, I can just see and remember every note, sound, position and color, all these requires visual learning and memorization…. pretty neat hum, I know. Later, when we stated garment construction class, we had to learn to look at a piece of garment’s small details, like stitching distance, stitching number, cut, shape, trims … to tell if the garment is a high quality or a low quality, which I’m still very picky about that. However now I’m using that skills more on computer designs, a little detail makes all the difference between qualities.
If only I can learn to use these skills on my sense of direction, somehow i’m just a blind bat when it comes to names, faces, places and directions, I can never remember these things if I don’t intentionally try to. Sounds weird, how can someone look at a picture and remember exactly the color, shapes, and all other notes attached to the picture, however can’t remember the name or looks of that new person you just meet yesterday, or can live in a place for almost a year and yet still gets lost. Yep, I know it’s shocking, some might say conceited, yes I had alot of that name calling. However as weird as it sounds - If a name, face or place doesn’t stand out for me, I just don’t remember them. However I can remember everything of an object, littlest details, I can look at any problem, any object, any design once and recall a year later - everything about it. Come to think of it, it is a utterly weird skill to have.
Guess for those who doesn’t know me, I’ll just continue be that conceited girl, that never remembers people :p when I was in high school, it actually took me 2 weeks to remember this poor girls name, everytime I see her I ask for her name, so rude and yet I just can’t help it. Tho later we became friends, which was a good thing.
Alright, enough about my weirdness, I do need to blog on A.M more.
