Happy Friday
15/11/2008Oh boy, it’s Friday so soon. This trip to NYC has been a blast, a little up and down, but over all I had an excellent time. Today, I went for a whole day walking trip in Soho and spent hours in Pearl River, so much wonderful stuff, wanted to take everything home. Pearl River has come a long way, I remember it used to be this awkward 3 stories tall Chinese retail place, where most Asians known to visit it for very high end traditional mandarin dress (I’m not talking about your 50 bucks stuff, when I was young, I had a little mandarin dress from Pearl River, it cost about 400 dollars, hand tailored to the highest quality). Now new location, new face - new store, no longer it’s a hidden gem among the Asian society, now you can find any race of any age wondering around in this very nicely decorated store.
What to look for:
1) Beautiful high end silk kimono, I had three of these kimonos at home (from past trips to Pearl River), trust me they are worth the money, be careful while selecting kimonos, only some are imported from Japan, so read the labels before you buy (might cost $100+ so be prepared)
2) Plates of any size, color and shapes, you will find white tear drop dinner plates, or beautiful painted leaf condiment plate, about six aisles of shelf space dedicated to nothing but plates.
3) Lots and lots of lighting fixtures, in fact their unique lighting fixtures has earned it’s reputation. If you wanted an unique funky and modern light fixture for your flats, then def. pay a good visit to Pearl River on Prince.
however they have since down size the quality and quantity of their mandarin dresses, sadly it’s no longer a good place to purchase a good fitting mandarin dress anymore, o’well, I’ll just get mine hand tailored next time I visit China.
